Cabbage Poriyal is common side dish in most tamilan households due to its simplicity and less requirement of ingredients . Its a quick to make recipe in hand and is often served as side dish with other cuisines.
Ingredients:
2 Cups cabbage, shredded
1/2 tsp Urad dal
1 tsp Mustard seeds
2 Dry red chillies, broken
1 Green chilli, slit
8 to 10 Curry leaves
1/4 Cup fresh coconut, grated
A pinch turmeric powder
2 tsp Oil
Salt to taste.
Method:
- Take a frying pan and heat oil.
- Add mustard seeds and urad dal. Let the seeds crackle.
- Add green chilli, dry red chillies, curry leaves and turmeric powder.
- Stir the mixture for few seconds.
- Add cabbage, salt and 1/4 cup of water.
- Cook over medium heat until the cabbage is tender.
- Mix grated coconut with it and serve hot.
Making Time: 15 minutes.
Serves: 4 persons.
Shelflife: Best Fresh.
Note: Dont add or sprinkle water while cooking this recipe. Better use a non stick tawa for easy cooking. Add salt in advance , so that it leaves moisture and makes it easy for u to cook. Turmeric can be added as per one's choice of food colour. Those who perefer the original cabbage colour can add a pinch of turmeric while those who want a change of colour can add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder while cooking the recipe.
